Warzone: Italy & Clue

I ran through a few more games of Warzone.  It's amazing how different the maps can feel -- this is most apparent in the Community maps.  There, I looked for non-standard levels, not based on real-world maps.

I found one where the regions were organized into two big asterisk shapes.  This one just kept going around and around, because there were 5 or 6 computer players and almost every space can be hit from 2 or 3 other spaces.  So , I completed three pentagons at most, reaching my max armies per round, but within a round or two, some other color would grab one of my spaces.  Check out the total chaos in the population map at the end.

Back on that map of Italy where the start-up message says, "You need to catch the enemy commaner before they reach their reinforcements in the north": it turns out that's exactly what you have to do.  Don't waste moves trying to capture all of Sardinia for extra armies.  Go directly to where you can attack across the sea, and on turn 3 the commander will be there.  Put all your armies there and boom, game over in 3 turns.  If you miss that one chance, the opponent has about 100 armies more than you do, so that will not end well.

I tried a map based on the board game Clue, which was a lot of fun.  You only get extra armies by controlling rooms (and stairwells for some reason).  Pick a corner room where you can only be attacked from two directions.

Sneak up next to a room controlled by an opponent, drop your armies there and take the room.  Then move on to the next room.

It takes a while, but I was able to methodically grab every room and slowly overpower everyone.  After that, mopping up the last two or three scattered spaces of the opponents is a bit of a drag since they get to put their 5 armies on any one of their remaining spaces and will try to take any weaker space of yours.  I find that you need to buffer all surrounding spaces up to 3 and drop 10 or more onto one main attack space.  And, transfer armies into your spaces around the foe so if they do take one space, you just take it back again.  I could have attacked my ally and taken their last spaces but that would just add turns and time without changing the outcome.

Meanwhile, the idle game is proceeding as expected.

One thing I found that I was not happy with: you used to be able to run this game on the PC, but now it requires the $3.99/month membership to do so.
