Idle Planet Miner: Selling Your Galaxy

Back in Idle Planet Miner, production was starting to bog down, with crafts taking an hour apiece, and sometimes needing hundreds of items to unlock new research.  So, I figured it would be a good time to test out their "Sell Your Planet" feature, which has so many people online asking questions.

These idle games can't level up through an infinite many items, so they all have this same kind of game reset mechanism.  In Idle Planet Miner, the Sell Galaxy button shows you the value of your galaxy and how many credits you will get for it.  These credits are a kind of meta currency, letting you buy new rooms for your ships, with each new room offering a different game boost.  Clicking the Sell button will show you exactly what you will lose: all planets, cash, ores, alloys, items, research.  Which sounds terrible.  But you get to keep your dark matter, your managers, your beacon buffs (though you will have to research the Beacon again to get it back on screen), and add Rooms to your ship.

So I did it.  My galaxy was worth $700M, which netted me 49 credits.  Everything reset exactly as they said it would.  For rooms, I got Engineering (all mine rates x1.25), Aeronautical (all ship speeds x1.5), Packaging at level 2 (all cargo capacity x1.75) and Forge (all smelt speeds x1.2).  You can see how that will be a big help. ;-)

I sent my rover on a mission first, and made sure I had enough dark matter for two time jumps.  So I got to planet 3, did a time jump for a big heap of ores, hit some research tasks and got the smelter and crafter, then got to planet 6 and did the other time jump.  I was able to jam through the first few worlds, and was back up to 7 planets with Colonization, Beacon, Rover, Telescope 3 in about 15 minutes.

It went very smoothly, and now everything is running a few notches faster than the first time around.  I hope to get back up to planet 20 (where I was at before the reset) in a day or two ...

I kept my Beacon buffs.

And I was able to add some rooms to my ship for overall game boosts.

Jan 16 update: I have finally reached the spot I was at before selling my galaxy.  There were some slow spots getting planets 16-19, but I got the funny cubical world #20 back up and running, and I'm smelting my first platinum bars.  I had a few funny cases where I suspect the idle gains are not being done accurately.  One time, I checked the game quickly before heading to work and had 9 of 10 gold bars, and didn't want to wait for the next 1000 to be mined and smelted so I hit a time warp, jumped ahead an hour and instead of the 10 bars I needed for a research item, I had only 7; I was not running any process that would have consumed it, it was just a weird glitch.

My galaxy is back up to $370M and I could sell it for 38 credits -- and it's probably worth using the button that will double that for 100 dark matter, since those credits are the top line of precious in the game.  It would be nice to get another room or two (the next ones cost 35 credits each!) but I reaaaaaally don't feel like starting over again.  But the next two rooms are Astronomy (planet upgrade prices -10% ... meh, that's really expensive for just 10%) and Workshop (craft speed x1.2).  Tempting, but maybe when I get to planet 25 or 30.

Jan 19: I finally got ahead of where I was at before Selling.  I got Telescope 7 and planet 21 ... which I was hoping would have titanium but it was 100% platinum.  I only have maybe 5 minutes in the morning to check on progress and tweak the crafting, and 20 minutes in the evening to tinker with this one.  But heck, it's an idle game, it will just churn away.  It was funny seeing some maxxed out users on YouTube building back from the 10th or 20th or 50th Sell Your Galaxy to rebuild a galaxy in under 20 minutes, in some kind of crazy flash bang session.  I guess that can happen.  I will just see how it plays out.

I got the 100 hammers I needed for Ore Targeting, just need 19 more circuits but I ran out of copper wire.  Some of the research items are mostly useless: Resource Details adds a tiny info pane that I never look at, Manager Training gives a whole 10% boost for a crazy amount of resources.  I got a cash windfall from a rover mission for $93M.  Scrolled down to find 3 free time warps, an hour each.  Let's see if they work ... haha, now I have 99 copper wire, 2 new circuits, but ran out of copper bars.  I put two smelters on silicon and two on copper, making circuits and glass ... Time Warp to 2 new glass and 11 circuits.  Enough to complete the Ore Targeting research.

Galaxy value passed $1B for an award, worth 60 credits now.

Will continue this in a future post.
